There was a relatively recent study performed between those to lean left politically and those who identify as conservatives. The study focused on their level of happiness and determined, across the board, that conservatives were significantly happier than those on the left; significantly happier.
Here’s a “Not the Bee” snippet of the study with their always-clever commentary.
This actually says a lot, and no, not necessarily about politics. This poll was taken in 2022 when conservative values were under attack from all angles. It says a lot about where our hope is and where our happiness is derived from. Christians tend to be more conservative. The left tends to be very antagonistic to religion as a whole. Many on the left believe this world is all there is, so their hopes are founded on politicians, celebrities, and leaders with deep pockets and empty promises. As Christians, we know there is more than this life and that everything this world has to offer is an empty shell of what is real. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV).
Satan is the king of this world. As Christians, we know that our hope cannot and will not be here; therefore our happiness doesn’t come from what is here. This world will continue to get more and more evil until Christ comes. If your hope is in this world, in what this world has to offer, then you will never, ever be happy, and not just in this life. Everything, and I mean everything, this world has to offer is temporary. Your very existence on this earth is temporary, so basing your happiness on what will not last is futile. There is only one way to find happiness, for He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)
